What’s new
Every change to RoutePark that you would notice, newest first. RoutePark is in beta: tell us what goes wrong.
Beta 0.10: The Peak District's car parks
- Open any walk in the Peak District and RoutePark lists the public car parks within 500 m of it, nearest first, from OpenStreetMap. Each one says whether its fee has been checked, and shows a fee only where it has.
- There are no plan B cards in the Peak yet: those need walks we have described ourselves, and our walks are in the Lake District.
- The home screen now says what RoutePark covers, and a walk that starts somewhere we hold no parking says so instead of looking like a gap in our list.
Beta 0.9: Parking well, and photos of places
- A new screen, Parking well: what the Highway Code and the Countryside Code say about yellow lines, gateways, passing places, junctions and bends, not blocking the lane and leaving room for the emergency services, with a drawing for each and a link to the rule it comes from.
- Open it from the foot of the home screen, or from any walk that has a gate to keep clear. It works with no signal.
- Photos of some places to park, taken on the ground, each with what it shows and the date it was taken: ten places around Mungrisdale, Mosedale and Carrock Fell so far. Swipe for more, tap for full size; a walk you keep saves them for no signal.
Beta 0.8: Install help that matches your phone
- On Android, the install steps no longer point to an Install RoutePark button when Chrome has not offered one. They go through Chrome's own menu instead, and say to open RoutePark from your home screen if it is already there.
Beta 0.7: Any walk, not only ours
- A walk that is not one of our routes now gets the places to park near it, nearest first, with map links. We say plainly that we have not measured how they join your walk or whether they fill together.
- A walk like that can be kept on your phone for a morning with no signal, like one of ours.
- A made-up walk round Derwentwater to try it on.
Beta 0.6: Tell us when a place has changed
- Every place to park has a "Something changed here?" link. It starts an email that already says which place you mean, so you only have to say what has changed: full, closed, new charges, or a pin in the wrong place.
Beta 0.5: A new look, and a beta label
- A new design: a clearer home screen, two example walks to try, a verdict at the top of every walk, Places and Sketch views, and a Keep button that stays in reach.
- Each place to park is a card saying where it joins the walk and how far that is on foot.
- Install help in one place, for iPhone and Android.
- Marked as a beta, with a link to report anything that goes wrong.
Beta 0.4: Open a place in Google Maps or Waze
- Every place to park opens in Google Maps or Waze, so you can drive to the next one in one tap.
Beta 0.3: RoutePark joins hikes.guide
- Route pages with an "If the parking is full" block now point to RoutePark, and a new page explains how the places are chosen.
- A clearer sketch map, and the Keep button moved up beside the list.
Beta 0.2: Where each place joins the walk
- Each place says where it joins your walk, measured along mapped paths rather than in a straight line.
- A sketch map of the walk and the places.
- Help installing it on a phone.
Beta 0.1: The first trial
- Choose the GPX of a walk you are planning, and RoutePark finds it among our routes and lists where else you could park.
- Keep a walk on your phone for a morning with no signal.
